Often overlooked, particularly by privately held companies, violations of anticorruption regulations increasingly result in significant fines for organizations and fines and imprisonment for individuals. For years the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), first enacted in 1977, was the primary concern for organizations doing business internationally. Following its revision in 1998, as well as the implementation of the U.K. Bribery Act in 2011, organizations are faced with the increased importance of acting correctly and managing risks associated with inappropriate behavior, whether intentional or inadvertent.
