    Advanced Preparation:  None
    Level:  Intermediate
Prerequisite: Directly Working Within Head Start
Field of Study: Specialized Knowledge and Applications

Questions regarding allowable Head Start/Early Head Start (HS/EHS) in-kind are the number one inquiry we receive from clients. But more importantly, in-kind deficiencies are the number one findings in most audits and OHS reviews of HS/EHS programs. Join us for this two-part, in-depth webinar.

First, we’ll discuss the nonfederal in-kind requirements. HS/EHS regulations require that the grantee or delegate agency contribute a portion of the total cost of the project. HS/EHS requires a nonfederal share of 20% of the total costs of the program (45 CFR Part 1301.20). We will discuss:

    • The regulations and guidelines that govern nonfederal in-kind
    • How to decide if a contribution is allowable nonfederal in-kind
    • How to document and properly value nonfederal in-kind
    • In-kind for governing board and policy council members
    • In-kind for parent involvement
    • Where the most amount of nonfederal in-kind is missed by agencies
    • How to increase the valuation of volunteer time

We’ll provide you valuable information for your HS/EHS program to help your agency “match” the requirements.

Then we’ll discuss and answer any questions you have about in-kind requirements. This is your chance to dispel the “I heard” and “I was told” from the past regarding this imperative topic.

    Learning Objectives:
    1. Learn about the basics of in-kind and all of the requirements.
    2. Learn about the different types of in-kind, with tips on how to generate more in-kind.
    3. Learn the specifics of in-kind policy clarifications and the common pitfalls to avoid pertaining to in-kind.
