Costs incurred by an organization in connection with programs are eligible charges against grants and contracts. Whether these costs are incurred by the program itself or by another program that provides supportive services to the program, they are allowable if the costs are necessary for the efficient conduct of the grant or contract. This session will focus on direct and indirect cost allocation. We’ll discuss and clarify policies that apply to funds that are used in collaboration with other funding sources. Cost allocation plans should be simple and straightforward, and we’ll give you some suggestions for ways to accomplish this. We’ll also suggest ways to allocate your costs to help your agency run efficiently and effectively.

    Learning Objectives

    1. Learn the regulations that cover cost allocation
    2. Gain an understanding of indirect cost rates and direct costing methods
