In the past few years, many financial institutions have empathized with Bob Cratchit, the overworked clerk in the famous Dicken’s novella, A Christmas Carol. They may have even seen in their senior managers, traits that were a bit like the nineteenth century bankers Jacob Marley and Ebenezer Scrooge. In either case, all financial
institutions appear to be working with fewer employees since December 2008.
