Organizations rise or fall, in large part, because of the quality of their leadership. So it should be no surprise that the presence or absence of strong leadership in a community hospital often spells the difference between exceptional performance and “just good enough.” Governing boards and their senior management staffs can help to ensure a sustainable legacy of high performance by using a performance-based incentive compensation system to reward and retain their exceptional leaders.
