By 2030, the nation’s oldest population will burgeon as the Baby Boomer generation reaches and surpasses age 65. By then there will be nearly 72.1 million older persons, more than twice their number in 2000.
A closer look shows the 65 and older population is projected to increase from 40 million in 2010 to 55 million in 2020, a 36% increase in just a decade. The 85 and older population is projected to increase from 5.5 million in 2010 to 6.6 million in 2020, a 19% increase for the decade.
Given the large number of seniors facing future housing needs, it’s no surprise the senior housing sector is attracting lots of attention both from the investment world and from developers.
