Electronic data analysis is an effective and proactive control that helps protect organizations and their valuable assets, a particularly vital objective given today's challenging economic times. Using electronic data analysis allows organizations to proactively identify potential process or control weaknesses and make changes to reduce fraud risk and improve existing internal control environments. It also lets businesses quickly identify questionable transactions in their financial accounting systems for additional review and correct records with accounting data that may represent errors or irregularities. This paper outlines eight steps for developing an effective data analysis program.
