Bob Cottingham selected Southern Region Leader of Wipfli LLP

Bob Cottingham has been selected to be the leader of the Southern Region for Wipfli LLP, one of the largest CPA and consulting firms in the U.S. This leadership position was effective June 1 and is a new position as the firm combines its Madison Region and Milwaukee Region into one Southern Region.
Both locations for the firm’s Madison and Milwaukee offices will stay the same with this leadership change. Jim Butler, former Madison Region leader, will focus on continuing to serve the firm’s tax clients. Dale Muehl, who has been the partner-in-charge of the Milwaukee Region for the past 17 years, will be focusing on his duties as the firm’s Chief Operating Officer and playing a key role in the firm’s merger and acquisition activity as the firm continues to look for practice growth opportunities.
“Based on his experience and the successful leadership he has demonstrated through his work with the tax practice in our Madison market, Bob is a strong leader who will guide the region to continued success,” Wipfli’s managing partner Rick Dreher said.“As Bob transitions into this new regional role, we thank Jim Butler and Dale Muehl for their leadership in the Madison and Milwaukee Regions over the years.”
Prior to taking on this leadership role within the firm, Cottingham was the leader of the tax practice in Wipfli’s Madison office. His experience includes over 20 years of experience providing tax services to businesses of all sizes, from mid-size private businesses to multinational corporations. He assists closely held companies and individuals manage their tax planning and compliance needs. In addition, he advises taxpayers about entity structure, mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, worldwide tax minimization strategies, as well as general corporate, flow-through, and individual tax matters.
Cottingham is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Wisconsin Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Federal Tax Committee (chairperson 2005-2006), the Madison International Trade Association, the Madison West Lions Club (past president and treasurer), and Leadership Greater Madison 12. He also serves as a board member and treasurer of the Madison Ballet. Cottingham earned his bachelor of business administration degree in accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
