January 3, 2013
(PDF 55 kB)
The IRS requirements mandate that 501(c)(3) hospitals must conduct a Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) in tax years beginning after March 23, 2012. Penalties for non-compliance include a $50,000 excise tax for every year of non-compliance. Hospitals also risk a possible loss of their 501(c)(3) status.
With the first community health needs assessments (CHNA) due in less than one year for most organizations, planning should begin immediately.
