Wipfli Partner Mary Jo Werner Selected to Join the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel for the IRS

Mary Jo Werner, a tax partner with Wipfli LLP, has been selected to serve on the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel (TAP) for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). She was chosen for a three-year term on the panel from 600 applicants.
“We are thrilled that Mary Jo was chosen to serve on this important panel,” stated Rick Taylor, partner-in-charge of Wipfli’s tax practice. “We know this will be a wonderful experience for her as a tax professional and an experience that will also greatly benefit Wipfli’s tax clients.”
TAP was established in October 2002 as a way of improving IRS responsiveness to taxpayers needs. Panel members from every state provide input on IRS’ strategic initiatives, as well as provide a venue for raising issues identified by citizens. TAP members serve a three-year term and generally spend between 300 and 500 hours a year on member activities.
With over 25 years of experience, Mary Jo leads Wipfli’s tax practice in the La Crosse office and personally works with more than 600 clients. She also provides a wide range of other tax services to her clients including retirement and estate planning, IRS/state audits, succession planning, merger and acqusition services and sales and use tax audits.
Mary Jo is an active member of the American, Wisconsin and La Crosse Bar Associations, as well as the Wisconsin Institute of Certified Public Accountants. In addition, she is an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), where she she serves as a liaison between the AICPA and the U.S. Congress.
A magna cum laude graduate of Loras College, Mary Jo holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting, political science and business administration. In addition, she earned her juris doctorate degree from Creighton University where she was a member of the Law Review.
