Small Businesses 'Disproportionally Impacted' by Employee Fraud, Experts Say

An employee who handled the nightly deposits for an appliance retail store allegedly embezzled more the $500,000 since 2008. The owner couldn’t believe his business was significantly impacted by the down economy as the article states “It was as if someone was stealing from him.” Unfortunately a trusted employee was stealing from the business. Small businesses tend to place a high level of trust in their employees, sometimes owners feel like these employees are family. When fraud is committed by these individuals, the money can be replaced, however the trust cannot. Read the full story here.
