Don Anders, ASA, MBA
Director - Business Valuation Services
Dedicating over 20 years to honing his craft, Don Anders specializes in the valuation of intangible assets for book and tax purposes. Over the years, he has developed sophisticated valuation models using varied approaches on a wide variety of intangible assets. Those assets include trademarks/brand names, customer relationships, proprietary software, patented and unpatented technology, in-process research and development (IPRD), trade secrets, noncompetition agreements, favorable supply contracts, order backlog, assembled work force, and leasehold interest, among others. These models give recognition to the fact
that businesses are a combination of monetary, fixed, and intangible assets that create the value attributable to the debt and equity investors of the operation.
Don’s extensive business and intangible asset valuation expertise allows him to provide cost effective, independent, and supportable conclusion of value for financial reporting and tax purposes. These analyses have withstood the scrutiny of outside auditors and SEC reviewers. Don works with his clients to capture and present a realistic picture of the significant intangible assets of their business.
Don is involved in developing best practices regarding the valuation methodologies on the array of intangible assets rising to the level of recognition under Statement of Financial Accounting Standards (SFAS) No. 141, Business Combination-Purchase Price Allocation; SFAS No. 142, Goodwill and Other Intangible Assets-Impairment Testing; and SOP 90-7, Fresh Start Accounting. A significant body of literature and precedent has been developing on these pronouncements since 2001, advancing the recognition of intangible assets that are known to exist in most businesses, but which are not often represented on the balance sheet.
