Brett Schwantes, CPA

Senior Manager

Brett Schwantes’ education and experience in the financial institution industry have allowed him to provide valuable service to his clients. Brett joined Wipfli LLP in 1995 and has worked closely with over 60 financial institutions throughout his career, assisting them with technical issues and providing quality service for a variety of needs. He is the leader of the Technical Issues Committee for the Financial Institutions Practice at Wipfli and has received specialized training on the accounting for a number of complex issues, such as derivatives. He has also received training in loan and other regulatory compliance and has regularly attended the WICPA Financial Institutions Conference. His specialized training, along with his experience, has allowed Brett to better understand the unique problems and challenges this industry faces on a daily basis.

Along with traditional audits and exams, Brett frequently advises financial institutions on a variety of issues, such as how to use and account for derivatives that can offset interest rate risk. In addition, he has provided accounting assistance and loan review, internal control review, and profit improvement services for his clients.

Brett also utilizes his communication skills and technical knowledge to provide training to other professionals and regulatory examiners on such topics as current accounting rules and trends and computer-assisted auditing techniques.

Professional Organizations and Activities

Brett is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Wisconsin Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is also a member of the national and Wisconsin chapters of the Financial Managers Society.
