Nicholas Smith has significant experience in a variety of areas within the Wipfli healthcare practice. His major areas of focus include market and service line planning, physician demand planning as well as all aspects of facility master planning. Over the years, Nicholas has served many clients including health systems, academic medical centers, critical access hospitals as well as physician groups and ambulatory surgery centers. Nicholas brings energy, enthusiasm and an analytical problem-solving approach to understanding and responding to the needs of his clients. Nicholas listens intently to uncover the core issues facing his clients, and develops solutions that are practical and attainable.
Typical market planning engagements for Nicholas include new service line planning, market share projections, community health needs assessments, physician demand assessments, and volume and demographic projections in support of financial feasibility studies and facility growth. His facility planning engagements include all aspects of planning new and replacement hospitals and other health care facilities, planning major renovations and additions, and all other aspects of planning for future growth. Before entering a career in health care, Nicholas was employed by a Fortune 500 insurance corporation in New York City. There he gained experience in complex operations management and business development initiatives.
Professional Organizations and Activities
Nicholas is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and stays active in modern health care facility design and planning through involvement with the Center for Health Design. Nicholas regularly attends national health care conferences and has spoken regionally on the importance of market planning. He has written several articles published by state health care journals.
