Mark MacDonald is a practice leader for Wipfli LLP’s construction contract compliance services with years business and consulting experience. His progression from auditor, specializing in construction, to controller and chief financial officer of a commercial contractor provides him with a unique understanding of risk management, job costing, internal controls, and management information systems as they relate to construction accounting.
Mark draws on his experience to help owners identify areas for improvement in managing, monitoring, and controlling construction costs for major capital projects. He has worked with owners through all phases of construction, from pre-award of the construction contract through project close-out.
He has audited construction projects ranging in size from $800 thousand to $150 million. An owner with over $7 billion in revenue implemented Mark’s recommendations to reduce the financial risk associated with managing $500 million of annual construction costs. He has managed construction audits for a Fortune 500 company which identified over $1.4 million in contractor overcharges on $30 million of construction work.
Professional Organizations and Activities
Mark is a member of the American and Wisconsin Institutes of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA/WICPA). He recently conducted a session on Construction Auditing at the Edison Electric Institute’s 2007 Utility Internal Auditor’s Training Course in Chicago. He serves as treasurer of the Board of Elders of Southbrook Church. Mark is a commercial pilot with an instrument rating and enjoys flying in his spare time.
