The Challenge
In an effort to become Y2K compliant, Dunn County Health Care Center (DCHCC) switched to a different business software package. But after just several months of use, the 200-bed, full-service nursing facility discovered that the new software was not well tailored to its needs. DCHCC encountered problems with lagging accounts receivable, reimbursement and cash flow issues, and only poor management tools were available for reporting its financial status.
The Strategy
With our extensive experience in nursing home management and software systems, Wipfli promptly assessed the situation and recommended a transition to a more compatible, industry-specific software package called Achieve. Providing one-on-one assistance, Wipfli worked to review, restructure, and redesign DCHCC’s business office procedures.
- Trained business managers and office staff on using the software and in maximizing its reporting features
- Introduced more efficient procedures and processes to billing operations to improve lagging accounts receivable
The Results
With the appropriate tools, procedural knowledge, and timely and accurate financial information, DCHCC was given the ability to operate more efficiently and more profitably.
- Reduced accounts receivable balance by nearly 80 percent within one year
- Experienced overall increase in cash flow
- Received accurate reporting to equip themselves with quality information
- Armed with better information to make better decisions about its future
