The Challenge
Located in Marathon, Wisconsin, Morgan Sand & Gravel is a third generation, family owned business that supplies washed aggregate products and concrete to homeowners, farmers, contractors, and other businesses. When their wireless Internet went down, company president Linda Lemmer wasn’t sure if the problem was on their ISP’s end or Wipfli’s, who had done her hardware selection and installation, and frankly, she didn’t have the time nor required technical knowledge to figure it out.
The Strategy
After two days with no Internet service, and many phone conversations with her ISP, Lemmer phoned Wipfli who immediately sent an Information Technology (IT) specialist to respond to this critical issue. (Morgan Sand & Gravel relies on the Internet for the latest weather information for their clients who are having concrete poured.) Wipfli went out to Morgan to assess the situation and talked to the ISP directly to determine, and then solve the problem.
The Results
Using Wipfli’s permanent part-time IT outsourcing services, instead of hiring their own in-house IT employee, has proven to be the most cost effective method to keep their computer systems and processes up and running.
- Every six weeks Wipfli spends a half-day on-site working on the company’s IT task list, troubleshooting, and upgrading software.
- This arrangement has allowed Morgan to put out small fires and prevent larger ones from forming.
- Wipfli has remote access to Morgan’s computer systems so when issues do arise in-between on-site visits, they can usually be resolved over the telephone.
