The Challenge
The National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP), located in Appleton, Wisconsin, is a nonprofit professional association dedicated to excellence in taxation. NATP had undergone significant changes in the leadership structure at its CEO level. The new CEO, having worked with Wipfli in the past, asked for assistance in multiple areas, from rebuilding the senior management team, to updating the employee handbook, to evaluating the base compensation plan.
The Strategy
Wipfli worked closely with the CEO to understand the impact the previous years’ changes had on the organization and staff. Projects and approaches were then prioritized to systematically rebuild the faith and confidence of the employees in the CEO, and ultimately, in the senior management team. Wipfli HR professionals counseled the CEO to underscore the senior management team’s commitment to the employee group by communicating on a regular basis about what was happening and why.
The Results
Over the course of two years, the partnership between NATP and Wipfli has successfully developed an employee handbook that accurately captures current practice and clarifies various misunderstandings. The management team has been rebuilt by hiring a controller and a director of education and research services.
NATP is currently hiring the final senior management team member, director of business development and member services. Along the way, a base compensation plan was developed to ensure that the organization was fairly and equitably compensating its employees. The result is an organization positioned to grow because of a strong senior management team that has earned the confidence and trust of its employees.
