Wausau, Wis. (Feb. 20, 2007)— Many Americans are not yet aware that the start and end dates for Daylight Saving Time (DST) in the United States are changing this year.
The new law extends DST by about four weeks. In years past, DST always started on the first Sunday of April and ended on the final Sunday of October. Starting this year, DST will always begin on the second Sunday of March and end on the first Sunday of November. (For 2007, the start and end dates are March 11 and Nov. 4.)
This change has significant ramifications for many computers, network equipment, bank ATMs, medical technology, and other IT devices that rely on built-in timekeeping circuitry or software.
The information technology consultants at Wipfli LLP (a CPA and consulting firm with offices in Wisconsin and Minnesota) have been addressing this issue with their clients. If you require assistance with your IT systems, please contact your nearest Wipfli office.
