On Thursday, July 29th, 2010 the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Sustained Engineering team released Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 Update Rollup 12. This update affects the following CRM components:
  • CRM Server
  • CRM Email Router
  • CRM Outlook Client (Offline & Online)
  • CRM Data Migration
  • CRM SRS Connector
Update Rollup 12 has the following characteristics:
  • Update Rollup 7 is required to install Update Rollup 12 for the CRM Outlook Client and the Data Migration Client
  • Update Rollup 12 is Cumulative for the following components:
    • CRM Server
    • CRM Email Router
    • CRM SRS Connector
  • Update Rollup 12 for the CRM client can be deployed independently from the Server rollup
  • .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 must be installed to apply Update Rollup 11
  • After applying Update Rollup 12, you must delete the temporary internet files in Internet Explorer
Please review the following Microsoft documentation at: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028381, for more details regarding the fixes included in this rollup. As is the case with any patch deployment, please review the documentation and perform the proper testing and planning before deploying this Rollup to your production environment.
Update Rollup 12 Build Number: 4.0.7333.2935

Key Fixes that require manual configuration:

  • 2277590: "Record a closed campaign response" check box is checked by default in Dynamics CRM 4.0

Key Fixes:

  • The Rule Deployment Wizard now supports Microsoft Exchange 2010.
  • When you try to use Set Regarding feature in an email message to set a campaign to link to the email message, you receive the following error message: "An error has occurred".
  • Assume that you create an appointment in Microsoft Dynamics CRM. When you update the appointment in the Microsoft Dynamics CRM client for Outlook, a duplicate appointment is created unexpectedly in the Outlook calendar of the recipients of your appointment.
  • Email messages are not removed from the queue after the status of the email messages are programmatically set to Completed.
  • When you import customizations, you receive an error message that indicates that a SQL exception has occurred. The error message resembles the following: "Exception: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: 'FilteredCampaignResponse' has fewer columns than were specified in the column list."
  • When you switch between subareas that were added by customizing a sitemap, Internet Explorer 8 or Internet Explorer 7 crashes.
  • After appointments are tracked in Microsoft Dynamics CRM, the appointments dissapear from the Outlook calendar of the user in the Microsoft Dynamics CRM client for Outlook.
  • When you run a report that is created by using the Report Wizard, you receive the following error message: "Query execution failed for data set DSMain."

Special Considerations:

64-bit versions of Office 2010 will not be supported in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0.

With Update Rollup 8 installed, Microsoft CRM E-mail Router Service supports Microsoft Exchange 2010.

Importing / Exporting Customizations:

As with previous updates, Update Rollup 12 supports importing / exporting customizations from and to CRM deployments with the following rollups installed: Update Rollup 2, Update Rollup 3, Update Rollup 4, Update Rollup 5, Update Rollup 6, Update Rollup 7, Update Rollup 8, Update Rollup 9, Update Rollup 10, and Update Rollup 11.

If a CRM deployment does not have a rollup installed, or has Update Rollup 1 installed, you should not export / import customization from / to a system that has Update Rollup 11 installed.

CRM 4.0 Client Auto Update:

Please note that the deployment of the Client rollup can be streamlined using the CRM Auto Update feature. This feature is new to CRM 4.0, and allows updates to be pushed to the CRM clients directly without a manual installation. If you would like to discuss this feature further please contact the Wipfli CRM Team.
