As the first baby boomers turn 65, long-term care providers are trying to position themselves for continued and future success; although “success” in long-term care has frequently had a different meaning than in other industries. The current long-term care industry is fraught with inadequate reimbursement, cumbersome regulation, and staff shortages. Success has become synonymous with survival. Service line planning has the potential to help long-term care providers redefine success.
