In-Depth Training on OMB's Uniform Guidance Plus Managing Cybersecurity Risks (Co-Sponsor: Maine Community Action Association [MCAA])

Event Location:
Portland Marriott at Sable Oaks

WHY ATTEND
Having strong internal controls and understanding the rules governing how you can and cannot spend federal dollars are keys to fiscal management and overall compliance in your organization. Managing cybersecurity risks is also more important than ever.
Professionals new to the organization, as well as professionals who have been there for decades, will benefit from this review of the administrative and cost principles/allocation sections of the 2 CFR Part 200 – Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards (also known as the “Uniform Guidance”) and Managing Cybersecurity Risks.
Join days one and two of this training workshop to learn about the new Uniform Guidance regulations and, more important, how to implement them in your organization. Review the regulations you need to know to stay in compliance through examples, stories, and best practices learned from years of auditing and consulting. Take back up-to-date and relevant information to implement immediately in your agency.
On day three, partake in a discussion regarding the increase in cyber-attacks, recent data breaches, and successful hacks and identify how the perpetrators were able to compromise the security controls. Receive a roadmap you can use within your organization to reduce your risk of cybersecurity attacks and review components of an effective Incident Response Program (IRP).

Your organization relies on data and systems to provide your services. With the increase in cyber-attacks, no organization is immune from being a target, no matter how big or how small the organization is. Bad stuff does happen. How your organization responds to a data breach, device loss, or corporate account takeover will either minimize or compound the impact of the event. In this session we will discuss recent data breaches and successful hacks and identify how the perpetrators were able to compromise the security controls. We will also provide a roadmap you can use within your organization to reduce your risk of cybersecurity attacks and will review components of an effective Incident Response Program (IRP).
Learning Objectives:
- Create awareness of risks in today’s computing environment.
- Explore how to mitigate security risks and avoid common pitfalls.
- Discuss what it takes to implement a cost-effective information security and data protection strategy.
- Discuss the roles, procedures, and knowledge that need to be in place to efficiently execute an incident response program (IRP) and review the complete incident response life cycle.
