Hurricanes
For my past blogs, I’ve tried to keep the tone light. However, as I write this blog, hurricanes have devastated and continue to devastate the U.S. and nearby islands. Some early damage estimates for just Harvey are exceeding $100 billion.
Through all this devastation, it has been amazing to see the acts of courage and selflessness being shown on the news of everyday people turning into heroes rescuing people in need from the rising waters.
JJ Watt donated $100,000 to help the people of Houston and challenged the public to match his donation. The public not only matched it, they have greatly exceeded it. As of the writing of this blog, the contributions have reached over $30 million.
It is humbling to see that when people of our country are in need, our country comes together to help. For quite a while now, the focus of the news has seemed to be extremely negative, and while I wouldn’t wish hurricane devastation on anyone, it has been uplifting to see the good in the people and organizations helping and making a difference.
While no one can prepare for events such as these, we can take everyday steps to mitigate surprises and problems. If you would like to discuss how to get started, please contact your Wipfli representative. And if you want to help the people in need after the hurricanes, consider making a donation to the Red Cross or other relief funds!
