As leaders we are often the mentor, coach, manager, etc. for the teams we lead. But do we need mentors too? Even after we have “made it to the top?” YES!!!
Some of us are blessed every day by the mentors in our lives. Here are some of the categories they fall into and what we get from them. The mentor we don’t choose who:
- Is the manager/leader of the team — Sometimes you learn what not to do when you became a leader.
- Is reluctant to be chosen — You test your perseverance and can “teach up” to help them teach you.
- Will be your biggest ally — From this one you learn to be your best self.
- Will not let you be a victim (no excuses!) — From this one you also learn to be your best self.
There are many other types of mentors who you connect with through your career — and life.
Who was/is the mentor who made the most impact on your career? There was probably more than one. And as a side thought, have you ever thanked this person for it? (And yes, this includes those who taught you what not to do!)
Wishing you a great day, and remember: Lead with legacy.
